Restoring a Cast Iron Stove
« on: February 27, 2011, 02:34:16 AM »
Any tips for this project ive just bought an ancient American King Oak pot bell stove for my Cowboy Camp, just wondered how best to refurbish the metal, most of it is in good condition just needs a minor repair to the door.

Stoves are always a pleasure to restore Lou -
I think I've got a few cast iron welding rods around somewhere, sounds like they may come in useful here. If you'd like to PM your email address, we can sort something out.
Pics would be good, if possible.

King stove company became the martin stove and range company and was the same company as the guitar maker??? So it says.

I just had my less-than-hopeful interview at the local gas company.  They have several old cast iron stoves on display, but not where the general public can see them.  And they would probably go berserk if I suggested pulling my camera out to take pictures (not that it would do you any good).  But they were neat to see.

Rotifer, how far are you from Yorkshire?

I'm in Yorkshire Rob, though (by English standards) it's a big place.
Bentham is about 11 miles west of Settle, just off the A65, on the south western edge of the county.

PS. There is a postal service, of sorts ...

The red van stops ... regardless.
Winged Mercury shuffles up the path.
Advertising kisses my door's cold metal mouth,
and the doormat feels the grief of wasted trees.

I wish I lived within riding distance of my good e-friend, Rotifer.  Tis a very special person I met first on this forum; then, because he rides a R100RS I turned him onto Boxerworks, where we have developed a special bond.

Rotifer recently came back to the R65 forum after we both took a holiday from B'works due to unnecessary roughness by one of the players.

You mean this one!(?)  Yes, I've been admiring it for some time, now.  I don't remember where I first stumbled onto the pictures!
