I am without my R65!
« on: September 20, 2010, 04:53:43 PM »
I'm killing a couple a birds with one stone this week.

The R65's fuel tank needs attention as the red lead liner is finally peeling after 30 years of service and there is some rust.  So I have a Caswell Kit.  I'm also going to line the tank of my Montesa Cota 247 at the same time so I can (hopefully) do the vintage trials at Aonia GA this weekend.

The R65 also needs the front calipers cleaned and the throttle arm cleaned and greased.  No time like the present.

On a future note I may be doing an IBA 1500 mile Bun Burner Gold in October or November.  The potential route is Atlanta Dallas and back.  If I don't do it on the R65 then I will use once again -- The BSA!  All depends on my friend and long distance rider Jim Weaver.  He is going to pull the trigger and I hope to tag along.  I'll post up here when it happens.  It would be nice to finally meet some of the Texas crowd!    :D

Bill, give us a heads up if you're coming this way.  We can probably arrange to get some of the Texas boys together. (I'm not aware of any Texas R65 ladies on the forum)

So you get a break half-way through the 1500 miles?

Bill, I look forward to your stop in TX as long as it's not during working hours ( Fri - Sun).  I also look forward to your review of the Caswell Epoxy Re-Line Kit as I almost went that route before deciding on the POR-15.

Tonight the Montesa Tank is lined.  I should be able to put gas in tomorrow!  No nasty (or dangerous) smell.  Took about ten minutes to set up and become tacky.  Then I made sure the vent and fuel petcock holes were clean.  Tonight it sits on a radiator fast curing.  The R65 tank gets the treatment tomorrow.

My buddy Jim Weaver want to go to Dalas and back this Saturday.  If I get the Montesa done I'm doing the AHRMA trails.  I don't know if I'm ready to do the BBG this weekend.

So much to do and so little time.

Did I mention I'm really liking the Caswell system?

Long enough to check the oil, pee, buy gas and eat a cliff bar -- or about 15 minutes.  Not a very good deal I think...

So the forum members will be taking care of your gas & oil while you pee & eat, then they give you a slap on the back and send you on your way?

Something like that.  Like I said, not a very good deal.  Gas goes in the Montesa Tank this afternoon.  If it runs right then I'll be doing the trials this weekend...

Bill, where are the AHRMA trials going to be held?  Is that at Diamond Jim's in Longview, TX?  Will you be riding the trials at Barbers on 8-10 October?  Monte and I will be there for that festival.  Tell us where you're going to be this weekend and maybe we'll come over and say howdy during your 15 minute break.

The Montesa RUNS (*Joy*).  It has started one kick seven time in a row this afternoon.  So I will not be doing the BBG to Dallas this weekend.  The SE AHRMA trials is in Aonia GA (near Augusta GA) this weekend.  I'm camping Friday night so I don't have to get up too early Saturday morning.

At the moment I'm working the weekend of Barber but I would love to attemp this.  However it is a National trials and as such is probably way over my puny abilities.  I would be very intimidated by this but if I can get the weekend off it would be a great excuse to show up.

I'll post up if I can get the weekend free.   8-)

I would love to meet Bengt again and Monte in Texas!!! Maybe Texas next year? I'm itching to go somewhere already!
Bill, with your long legs, I think your confidence on a trials bike even if you don't win has got to be high? So you dab once or twice or more...at least you don't fall down! My vintage club here, the CVMG, has vintage trials all Summer and Fall.
1983 R65LS - LRB still my favourite!? 1988 Honda NX250, "Toodles Too" and a Suzuki DR650, "Calypso." All stored in the "Brrrmmm Closet".
