Newbie and looking for parts :)
« on: July 11, 2010, 11:58:28 AM »
Hi all

Just to say hello and introduce myself. I have a 1988 R65 which needs a few bits, namely headlight & headlight bracket, pair of front indicators & mirrors. The bike originally had an aftermarket fairing up front, which will be for sale later, so I need the bits to make it all original again.

Do you guys know of anyone with lots of spare parts?

Monte to montyr65...

Hot dog! Got someone else maned Mont(e/y). Welcome... I can blame my stuff on you ;D

Always helpful to let us know where you hail from. If you're in Tazmania -we have some peeps down there- if wouldn't do you any good if we suggested you call RePsycle BMW in Ohio for gently used parts.

We l-o-v-e photos. Scale 'em to about 600 pixel width so you don't blow out our screens. A web photo hosting site makes it easy.

I'm based in Oxford.

The bike is actually my Dad's but I am a BMW rider myself :) I treated myself to a new S1000rr.

The pictures show the bike with an aftermarket fairing on, which we've removed. I'm looking for a headlight, headlight bracket, front indicators & mirrors.

Then it needs a massive service as it's been off the road for 7 years! So any pointers as to what I should be looking out for or checking etc would be greatly recieved.

Oxford, Mississippi?  They've had lots of water this summer.   Should be easy for us to keep Monte separate from Monty.

Welcome Monty (M2). That is sure one nice bike you have there, and I am certainly envious of the house in the background of photo number 2!

I say, that is a nice fairing that you have - what make is it?

Cheers

Welcome, Monty! I've got the headlight bracket assembly (no headlight) but it's in okay shape... the turn signal stalks have been cut off. It's yours for the cost of shipping if you want it. Just PM and we can chat.

You can see it in this photo:

Sorry Graeme, your stuff is from an earlier version R65 ('78-'84).
Monty has a post '84, mono-shock R65.  Except for the drive train, there is not much in common with the earlier bikes.

Good looking "Mono".  Nice set-up for an area with inclement weather, or tripping!

Welcome aboard.

My son spent a summer at Jesus College a few years ago.  Loved the area.

Ah, well... that's too bad.  Good luck on your parts search, Monty. :)
