Whereabouts in VT are you located ?(I'm living in NH, now, but I've spent 36 eyars of my life in VT)

Indeed I do have an R65, a 1984 LS purchased about 5 years ago from a guy with a barnful of airheads near Rochester, VT.  I paid way too much for it, because there were a ton of things wrong including road rash on the front fender, fairing, left valve cover and left bag.  Fortunately most of the damage was cosmetic, and the vitals were solid, so I pecked away at the easy stuff.  After I got comfortable with the peculiarities of German motorcycle design (I had always had Limey and Jap bikes) I took the plunge and tore it apart at the end of the fall riding season three years ago.  With the help of Mr. Clymer and Mr. Haynes, Oak from the ABC and Rusty the parts  guy at MAXBMWMotorcycles, I got it back together without any serious mistakes.

Without going into too much detail, the result has been a really sweet, fun little ride.  Mostly I stay within 50 miles of Proctor, near Rutland,  but I have ranged out into the Adirondacs and as far south as my daughter's home in Bristol, RI.  The LS seem happiest on 2-lane back roads, although it will cruise comfortably at freeway speeds.

I'm no expert, but I've learned a lot about this bike, and I look forward to sharing lots of good tales and info.

As you are sharing the rebuilding experience with quite a few of the asylum's inmates there will be a good basis for story swapping.

Yes, I know the guys you're referring to in Rochester - I look @ their website and just have to say "What?" when I see the prices that they are asking for their airheads.   Some of them are a bit more reasonably priced than others, but some have no relationship to reality given the cosmetic state that they are in, even if mechanically sound.

It is not likely to happen until the calendar change, but I'm sure to be doing more riding in VT in the spring.  I have some very close friends in Monkton and also in Shaftsbury, and I love riding along those mountain roads so perhaps we can arrance to coordinate a trip someplace, maybe meet @ Curtis' outdoor BBQ in Putney or something.   I've also planned to go to the BMW rally at camp silver springs put on by the VT BMW riders club in September, but something always comes up.  MAybe next year.

I've had some great spelunking experiences in Proctor.   HAven't gone in a few years though due to age ( I'm not as flexible as I used to be ) and concern over the mysterious bat illness (white nose syndrome) that's been killing off most of the bats.  I don't know if the spread of this bat-disease is the result of something carried into the caves by humans or not, but I don't want to take the chance till we learn more.

Anyhoo, welcome to the club - we'll have to get our NH R65 riders together and head to VT and some nice roads in upstate NY sometime.
