Back to the 'stan
« on: May 30, 2009, 09:51:54 AM »
Bid farewell to my Soldier son today as he flew out of DFW on his return to Afghanistan after two weeks R&R. End of tour estimated early November. He was actually vibrating with excitement about getting back to the two spec ops teams he leads.

As a parent, I'm happy that he is happy with his chosen career. And as a parent, I say prayers for him every day. God speed, Zach.

God bless him Monte, and your family also.  My nephew leaves for Marine officer basic in Quantico on Monday.  We need to keep them all in our hearts, minds, and prayers.

I'm thankful for people like him, for his service to our country !

I've got a couple of co-workers, that are members of Arizona National Guard, that did two tours in that theatre, one in Iraq, and one in Afghanistan .

For the most part the citizens of those countries are grateful for their presence .

I lived in Iran for about a year and a half, in Esfahan, working for a defense contractor, Bell Helicopter International .

This was my first real experience of being out of the US for any real length of time to actually live with the 'locals' instead of being a tourist, and I came away with this impression, if you took politics and religion out of the equation, I believe that we as a human race, could get along a lot better, than we have for the last couple of millenia !!

Hoping and praying for a safe return of your son .
