Greetings from SouthEast Alaska!
« on: April 26, 2008, 08:37:53 PM »
Hey all.

After some password issues, I've finally made it!

A quick bio...36 years old, a Chief in the U.S. Coast Guard, currently stationed in Juneau, Alaska.  Currently own a 2007 Ural GearUp, a 2002 Yamaha TW200, and next weekend I travel to Anchorage to pick up a 1984 BMW R65 with 6600 miles on it and a spare parts bike with running engine.

In the past I've owned a KLR650 (just sold it this past week), a '76 Honda CB750K that I am parting out, a '78 CB400TII Hawk, and an '80 CB750F SuperSport.  All this in only the past 5 years of my short riding experience (other than dirt and mini bikes as a youngster).

Glad to be here, I'll be asking many questions about my R65.

Thanks!
Spicy

Welcome Spicy !

You certainly have one of the more "colorful" handles on this forum, I think !

We recently had another new Alaskan member join our group, though I think that he is
quite a long ways north from you.

It is a fun crowd, I think that you will like it here !

Thought I'd show you some pictures of my new ride(s)...

First off is the donor bike after a good washing...this is now the official parts bike, you'll see why in the next picture...

Parts bike in current condition...

The runner...1984 R65...

I am looking forward to getting them both home!  The engine in the parts bike runs just fine.  Comes with an extra tank, fenders, side panels, and the entire parts bike.  Gotta take a 4 hour ferry ride then a 750 mile road trip to get to it, then reverse the trip and it'll be back home!

Welcome Spicy.

(Haggis?   :-/ )

I lived in Juneau for about a year and a half in about 1980/1981.  A beautiful area.  I just didn't do the dark winters well (left in January).  But I loved the summer.  I worked for Dept. of Fish & Game, Commercial Fisheries.  Lived out along Auke Bay.

Where do you ride around there?

Thanks for the pictures.  Would love to see pictures where you ride.

Have fun!

Melena,

Thanks for the reply.  We enjoy it up here, but we won't retire here.  As you know, there is very little riding to be done on Juneau.  We take the ferry up to Haines or Skagway often for a weekend trip in the Yukon.  I have many pics of where I ride, but none with a Beemer - yet!

Here's a picture of the tank and fenders primed and ready for paint.  These are the spares...

Good morning neighbor.   Amazing we can be in same state and yet a manditory half to two day ferry trip and 1000+ mile ride away from each other ... and there is still another 600 miles to the northern border ... and a two day ferry from you to the southern border ... and that's if we don't include the foreign country we have to ride thru ... puts another perspective and scale to the word "landscape !" My 86 r65 is blue too ... yours definitely has more sparkle.  Nice job.   Got pretty close to you this April ... Situk R ... chasing you know what.  Also make it to Sitka each season ... but not on the bike.

Welcome ... from another newcomer.

And thanks for doing what you do.  You all saved my ass twenty years ago in Bristol Bay ... i still hear that chopper in my dreams.
