San Diego area Mechanic or "Tech days" ??
« on: December 14, 2006, 05:37:54 PM »
Hello everyone, I just joined the site after getting a
1984 R65.  I live in the northern San Diego area and
I'm interested in knowing who the local gurus are.

Long term, I'd like to do most of the work on the bike
myself, but for now, I want to get it checked over by
an expert before I potentially get into trouble.

Any recommendations for mechanics in the San Diego
area?  (preferably North County)  Anyone I should
avoid?

Also, are there any "tech days" coming up where I can
learn?

Thanks in advance,
John

Well Well, funny you should ask. I think you'll find a little local club in San Diego here http://airheads.org/. Sign up and get their list e mailed to you as a daily digest. Also find out who your local Airmarshal is for info on Tech Days. There is a bit of a spat going on over there among the Titans concerning oil additives but it is usually a very informative place. You'll also want to stay tuned here for your best model specific information. After you get that squared away send Melina $5 for the really cool R65.ORG patch.

the "Titans"...   They may prefer that term to guru, I don't know.  They had similar discussion a few years ago, so I already knew Oak liked moly and Tom C. doesn't.  I don't know why Oak got so upset though.  I use synthetic oil in my gear box so I can't use moly even if I wanted to.

And welcome aboard John!
