Used R65 parts?
« on: April 30, 2013, 04:26:39 PM »
In my never ending search for a tank cover, I've been browsing Ebay's BMW motorcycle parts section lately, and am stunned at the prices being asked for just basic, run of the mill items. 125 dollars for a used & scuffed right side cover, but to be fair, only 99 bucks for a new one.  :o  299 dollars for one used rear shock :o ; lots of folks felt they weren't much worth a damn brand new! 98 bucks for only 1 crash bar/engine guard! Oh, then there's a guy who is selling the guards separately, left 65 bucks, right 65 bucks. At least he admits they are scratched up and missing the mounting hardware. I mean, holy  [smiley=cowsleep.gif]!  I need to start scouring old barns, and buying crashed bikes from insurance companies!

Yeah, I'm thinking the Junkyard Dawg might have to go under the knife as it's worth a ton more in parts as it is a runner.  Hate doin' that, though... :-/

I got sick of parting out my bike.  I have an old friend that worked in the BMW shop part-time when I first bought my bike.  He repairs brass & woodwinds as a profession.  He is going to clean out my garage of everything BMW in exchange for a reworked silver (well, maybe nickle) flute!
He says he "needs" a cafe project, anyway.  :)
