New header pipes
« on: April 29, 2008, 06:59:33 PM »
I just got the new header pipes for my bike delivered today.  Perty!   Look much sturdier than the old ones.  They are aftermarket Mac pipes to go along with the Mac mufflers I got last fall.

I have a question though.  They have only one crossover pipe instead of the 2 that are on the originals.  Everything is a little different shape, too.  I got them through Ted Porter's Beemer Shop, so I am not worried about them being right.  But I do wonder if this difference will make any difference in the performance................well, at least any difference that I would notice.

I'll have someone take them over to the BMW shop where my bike is getting its all over tune up to have them put on.  Since I'm laid up right now I will have to let them do it for me.   ::)

Boy, you will do anything to get out of a little work, won't you!  ;D

I do think the 2nd crossover was supposed to boost midrange torque.
I know from reading Sue's description of working with her two-crossover system, I was glad I had a single!  She had quite a time getting everything to come together easily.

Congratulations on the new exhaust system.  That is something I hope to do, someday.

I like the styling of the Mac head pipes, I like the way they curve, go straight for a bit, then finish curving to the rear.  I have Mac mufflers on two bikes and love the more rumbly exhaust note.  I have never had any Mac headers but aren't they a double-walled construction?  If so, say good  bye to Beemer-blue header pipes.  Also, if double-walled I would think the  internal diameter might be a bit smaller than stock and might affect top-end power a smidge, if any at all.  But, I usually don't know what I'm talking about so you are better off ignoring me like everybody else does! ;)

I think about the only difference between 1 and 2 crossovers is that it shifts the torque curve a bit.

What can I say?   :D

Well, then I will see just how much difference it makes to my riding.  I probably won't notice a thing!    ::)

Yes, the pipes do have an interesting curve to them.  I'll have to check out the double walled construction.  They do seem a bit heftier than the originals.  I'd run right out and take a look at them, but I'm not running anywhere right now!  It will be interesting to hear the new mufflers.  I can't wait to get back riding.    :-/

Well, at least that's agreed on.   ;)  I think they will do very nicely.   :)

Melena, if you think the stockers are way to quiet, but don't want something as obnoxious as a Harley, then you will probably love the Mac mufflers.  They also seem to be quite a bit heavier than the stockers so maybe they are made out of thicker metal...

I have a set of Mac 2-1 pipes and muffler that will eventually go on the LS, but not this springtime.
A friend of mine had a similar setup on his R80/7 and it definitely gave it more of a 'bark'.
