flat top bing's

Hi fellow enthusiasts

Wondering if you Guys can help me out on a couple of things? Firstly, can you change the diaphram on the flat tops as looking at them they look firmly attached to the slides, did'nt want to force the plastic "bit" just in case I broke it., or would I have to buy the diaphram and slide as a unit? Secondly there is a small hole in the bottom of the slide, does this have to face in a particular direction i.e toward the cylinder or toward the air filter side of the carb or does it not matter?. As always all feedback greatly appreciated.

PS, Took Sue,s thread advice on removing and regreasing the headstock bearings. Many thanks as this was not a job I was looking forward to, but the following the instructions made the job very straightforward.

Cheers Steve.

when i changed mine last summer i called bing and ordered new diaphrams and the rings that snap over. rob and i kind of did this at the same time last year and there is a thread out there if you do a search under diaphrams it should show up.

yes the little hole has to go a certain direction and i dont remember which way with out looking. sorry.

Steve,

The plastic rings are replaceable and definitely should be replaced.  I have had a trip interrupted by ignoring this.  (I didn't think they were available).

The hole at the bottom of the slide can only go one way.

There is a locating tab on the inner edge as well as the outer edge of the diaphragm.
Make sure those are in place, and you've no worries!

Enjoy!

Cheers Guys

Yes I have now seen the "tab" you were referring to. Must admit I have not seen the plastic rings advertised on the usual sites (motorworks, motobins) over here in the UK. Where did you guys end up getting yours from, and is it a fiddly, delicate operation?

Thanks Steve.

i got mine straight from bing and i believe rob did also. the plastic ring is pretty tough and you have to use some force to get it on. i had a bearing driver that worked nice and i think the guys had put it in boiling water to help slip it on.

if you goggle bing you should find their web site and i know they have a international sales section.

Bing Agency for North, South America and Austrailia

You call the number, and a guy answers, or maybe his wife, and you explain what you need, and they know exactly - well - what you need!  Helpful and friendly.  Knew right off about the white rings, and told me about boiling them.

Thanks guys, I will bear this in mind if I end up changing the diaphrams (had a look at weekend and could not see any detectable holes or tears etc) Getting a new battery this week so hope to fire her up this weekend for the first time in 3yrs-wish me luck.
Cheers Steve.
