If you are set on getting an R65, or another model airhead BMW , I might suggest you join the Airheads Beemer Club .

http://www.airheads.org/

Ohio has a large number of members, most likely you can find a group in your area  .

It would benefit you, to have an experienced airhead owner have a look at your bike before purchasing it .

Riding all year long since 1993 .
I'll give up my R65, when they pry my cold dead hands from the handlebars !!!!!

Wow! What great advice/info!

Thanks especially to JT & Domenico. I've printed out your posts & started a R65 folder!

I'm leaving in a few minutes on my final little "road trip" before school starts, to a friend's camper on a small lake a few hours away.  I've decided to plan my route like I did back when I had my CB750K, all secondary roads that travel *through* the little towns instead of around them. Yeah, I'll be in my little Subaru wagon, but I'll have a smile on my face thinking about being on a bike (a R65 perhaps :-)) for next years trip(s)!

Thanks again to all for your hospitality!

Take care,

Frank W.

Just wanted to welcome you, Frank.  I'm new to BMWs and r65s but in the 9 months I've had mine, I've grown to love it.  And if I can work on one, anyone can.  ;D
