vintage BMW in AT&T ad
« on: August 13, 2009, 06:13:34 AM »
AT&T is running a series of ads about, well, I'm not really sure but the latest has a guy talking about the ease of his small computer and its speed, "even while sitting in this cramped sidecar" or something.

Big leather ugly fuzzy guy walks outta the gas station, starts up and as they turn to roll off, the unmistakable leading link Earles fork and airhead motor caught my eye. I thought it was Scotty in Texas gone Hollywood on us!

Still unsure what they're selling...  [smiley=bmw_smiley.gif] Monte

It looks like a BMW but I think that it's a Ural rig.  See if you can see the front fender.  If it's really honkin' big and the valve covers are kind of funky then you know it's a Ural.  And I'm like you, what are they selling?  Whatever it is, I'm sure not the demographic target.

A Urinal? Bummer. You can tell my attentiveness to TV commercials is only slight. But put some of those TV Victoria's Secret models on sidehack rigs and you'd certainly have my undivided attention. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]   Monte

I just saw the tv ad last night, it's for AT&T wireless internet service, the actor in the sidecar, is Bill Kurtis, he was a long time news anchor in Chicago, for about 20 years, and is the narrator on a lot of documentaries on the History, Discovery, and National Geographic channels .

I couldn't tell if it was a BMW, or a Ural, but it is interesting, that you can pick this out of a short commercial !!!!

I just saw it for the first time Saturday evening, and I'm pretty sure that it is indeed a Ural.   It is definitely either a Ural or DNEPR sidecar, and from the silhouette of the tank and the front wheel/fork design, looks just  like that used on the later model URAL bikes even without a good shot of the engine.
