BMWMOA route and rendezvous planning
« on: July 01, 2007, 09:17:22 PM »

Well, the countdown to the BMWMOA rally in West bend is just over a week.    I'm reassembling the
R65LS, but it won't be making the ~2400 mile round trip this time, especially without much chance
for a preliminary shakedown cruise, so I'll be on my Kawasaki Connie.   If anyone from this group
is planning to be at the rally, I'll send you my cell phone # so we can try to meet up in the beer tent
or something !   I'll also hopefully have my R45/65/65LS patch on my new yellow jacket, too.

Still working out the route over and back, but it looks like the trip over will probably be crossing into
Canada in upstate New York, and traveling on up (avoiding Toronto) and crossing back at Sault Ste Marie
and down to West Bend, Wisconsin.   Return trip may involve a ferry through Ludington,, MI, or a big swing
southward to avoid the dreaded Chicago-land traffic.  Weather, time, and other factors will play a factor in the
route choice as well.

Hope to see some of you guys & gals there !
 :)

I'm leaving Monday and going around Lake Huron and on to the Sault as well and then down to West Bend. There's a family I met at the RA who live on an acreage 12 miles from the rally site and he has wants some riders to camp at his place...he has shade, toilet and laundry he says and he seems very nice. His wife rides too and they take their kids with them on the bikes. He would love to have 15-20 bikes at his place camping. If you are interested Mike give him an email at pweezer@SBCGlobal.net. My buddies and I are camping there. The RA field sorta made up my mind about no shade camping although I am concerned about missing the crowd too.

Your trip could involve crossing at Ogdensburg or even Massena and then going north on Hwy 416 to the west end of Ottawa then keep going north up Hwy. 17 all the way North Bay and Sudbury and the Sault. Long trip for you but a good way. Only traffic is a bit on the west end of Ottawa.  Odgensburg bridge is a grated bridge FYI; Massena isn't. It seems hard to imagine but if you look at the maps, this route is almost a straight line west?? Isn't it? I am sending a PM to you.
1983 R65LS - LRB still my favourite!? 1988 Honda NX250, "Toodles Too" and a Suzuki DR650, "Calypso." All stored in the "Brrrmmm Closet".

Hi Sue,

Yes, I think that the route which you suggest is probably going to be pretty close to what we
do take on the way over.  We'll probably spend some time on the T-Can to eat some miles
at some point, but also hope to explore some bits along the northern shores of some of the lakes.
We'll be camping in Wisconsin, but will probably stay in convenient motels along the way so we
can get out to a good early start more easily in the mornings !

I'll send an email to your friend and talk to my cousin about that as an option.     He had wanted to
stay at the rally site, but if it gets hot (or perhaps really wet) we may be very grateful for an option
with shorter lines for the toilet, shower, laundry, and cover/shade for camping !

Sending you a PM as well...
Mike
