Deerskin Gloves
« on: January 03, 2007, 05:08:11 PM »
Rob Valdez, I was going through the Blue Moon website, and saw they had deerskin gloves. I know you are still mourning the loss of your Thurlow deerskin glove, so this may be a suitable replacement.

I loved my deerskin gloves - I lost mine at the welcome center in Maine many years back.  Never did replace them...My size is very hard to find.  :(

Hmmm, deerskin gloves!  I'd love to get a pair.

At work we get all these catalogs for construction and safety stuff.  One just came in today that has all kinds of leather work gloves, including pigskin and deerskin.  They aren't riding gloves per se, but would these be good?  They aren't very expensive (comparatively) and they have women's in all sizes.   I'll check out the manufacturer.  They say they are abrassive and puncture resistant.

I wonder if they'd fit you, Aïda.  What size do you wear?

Melena,

I used to wear BMWs smallest size 6-6 1/2, but even those are sized bigger now than they once were.  I think the last pair I got was a child's size glove.  Sometimes I can wear an extra small in those generic sizes, but if they list women's sizes then the small usually works.  It used to be near imposiible to find any riding gear made for women, but it's getting easier and easier to find women's sizes -
IT"S ABOUT TIME!!! [smiley=mad.gif]

We have a couple of friends that buy the standard work gloves to ride in.  The only hitch is alot of them have that stiff seam that runs around the thumb.  It can get painful on long rides.  Let me know what you find out.

I think my favorite normal weather gloves are goat skin that I had the gauntlets add on.  I've been riding in them since 1983.  I had to have the palm stitched back together a few weeks ago, though it's usually too cold for them this time of year.  If Rob had his gloves for that long, I can see how he would miss them.

I have the same gloves that Rob V. had, my first pair lasted 17 years. Got a new pair in 2003 just before Thurlow Leather went out of business. I have the unlined gauntlet style great for the mild winters here in Phoenix. The gloves can be washed in cold water with a Woolite type soap, air dry then mink oil applied, and they are as good as new again.

The pair that lost a mate was actually my 2nd pair.  I bought my first ones somewheres around 1980, and when one of the fingers wore through, I had to get the second pair.

I wonder what I did with the first pair?

Most recently, I bought a pair from Berti's Gloves.  Her website has been down for the last two nights, but this is her info:

2664 E. Falcon Crest Rd.
Harrison, ID 83833
208-689-3111

I like them alright...but they are not Thurlows... :'(  [smiley=wall.gif]

The pair I bought were off the rack.  If I order again from her, I will probably scan my hand (more accurate than an outline, I would think) and send that to her.  The fingers are a little long on this pair.
