Relay Housing Question

In regards to the relay housing on the right side behind the battery, is there supposed to be a cover for this plastic box?

The previous owner of my bike had used black tape to cover it up, presumably to keep rainwater out.

I have looked around for a proper cover, but can't seem to find one.

What is the real solution for this?

Other than looking in it once out of curiosity I've never been inside the fuse box on mine for many years. From memory I believe it does have have a cover. #19 on the parts fiche diagram is listed as a cover although it doesn't look like it fits.  I'm not at home or I'd have a look at mine for you.

Item 19 is a mount not a cover.

The only thing I remember is that the long removed beeper lived in there on my wife's R65. I've known that bike since new new and I don't think it ever had a cover.

I have the part 19 on my bike. It fits just above the horn where the two forward frame tubes come together - under the front of the tank. I have always assumed it was to help prevent dirt from getting into the area in front of the site filter intakes. If you like I could take a photo for you [ch128521]

Interesting if there is no cover for it. What about dirt and water? Will those electrical components not be damaged by dirt and water?

#19 is a protector for the coil(s) and wiring on the right side of the frame. Not a cover.

Well I said the parts fiche listed it as  cover but it didn't look like one so no great surprise that it isn't one.  I've had a quick look at mine without sniping the ubiquitous cable tie securing the side panel. As far as I can see there doesn't seem to be a cover over the whole opening as the painted side panel fits very tight up to the box.  There is a small cover #14 with a knurled screw on the fuse box.

I haven't had any need to poke around in there for 10 years so whatever the stock arrangement is works just fine.
