Oil out of speedo
« on: January 02, 2017, 02:42:48 AM »
Hey all.
So i removed the gearbox out of my 1980 r65 and dumb me didnt empty oil. needless to say it spilt out of the opening for my speedo cable. How concerned should I be, how bad is it?

I wouldn't worry about it. The speedo drive gear meshes with the output shaft so splash lubrication by the gearbox oil is never far away in normal operation.

Depends where you did it.  If it was on the bedroom carpet (as I did with a BSA gearbox as a teenager) then that stain will never come out.  You will get used to the smell however.

If it was on the tiles in the kitchen then mop it up with an old tea-towel and hide the evidence.  Then deny everything.

Other than that, no harm done.

Happy to help....   ;D
