Caliper Adapters

Hi, I was looking around the internet when I came across this:

It's a caliper adapter plate that lets you install modern Brembo 30/34 calipers in lieu of the F08.

Since It's been a proven fact that F08 Calipers bolt right up on our R65, then this nifty part may actually allow us to actually have modern braking power on our R65...... I THINK

The problem I saw is that the F08's on them Italian bikes have 280mm diameter calipers while our R65's have 260mm ones.

BUT, the mounts on our bikes are designed in a way that the f08's are centered on the 260mm rotors. Will this mean using the adapters will preserve the original mounting accuracy and will still fit the modern ones squarely on the rotor?

I did some research on the Brembo 30/34 and min diameter for the caliper is 260mm. So at least I know that It'll work on the bike one way or another.

They will work, but they are very expensive as are the calipers.

The more readily available intermediate 4 spot Brembos fitted to late K bikes and oil heads have the same bolt spacing as F08s but need a different type of adaptor to correctly center them.

Let's just say that you can get  4 piston calipers to fit properly with the adapters, what would you need as far as a replacement master cylinder ??

Front brakes are the only thing that I would want to change on my R65's  .

Going from an oilhead, to an R65, the 35 year old brakes feel inadequate in the riding that I normally do .

I have gone full circle with brakes. First I bought a pair of 4-spots from a R1100 and I in fact commenced making adaptors.

Then facing the cost of a 17mm master cylinder I had a re-think and instead rebuilt the single F08 I have, installed braided lines, good quality pads (bearign in mind I have cast iron rotors so what is good for Stainless Steel is not necessarily the best thing for cast iron.

Having done all that - and being relatively happy with the front brake, I have embarked on a different journey. I am about to fit a K100 front end to my R65, that will give me forks that will mount the 4-spots without adapaters or modifications. I am currently makign the decision whether to use them, or the late 2-spot Brembos that the K100 forks came with.

I have ridden an R100 with a K100 front end, 2-spot Brembos and a 15mm master cylinder - you could effortless lock the front wheel with two fingers - I will probably fit a 17mm mastercylinder to protect me from my own hamfistedness.
