Factory OEM Hazard Warning kit for R65

If anyone is wanting to install hazard flashers on there bike .
Moto Bins has the kits on sale (BMW Part No.61 31 1 459 578)
and it looks like it is going to plug right in with no modification to it or the existing wiring.
They say it is for the 1985 and later bikes but I am sure it will work on the 81 and up R65's aswell
The only thing I can see is the Triangle on the switch may be turned 90 deg.
Here is the picture of the harness
I will install it tomorrow and see for sure

The above Hazard Warning kit works just fine as it comes and that is how I installed it
If you are wondering why it looks so complex it is because it is set up to only be able to turn it on if you have the key on but does not turn off when the key is switched off.
It also splits the Black plug so it is a plug and play set up with no cutting or splicing of the wiring.
I guess BMW was concerned that some one would turn your hazard lights on and run the battery down when you weren't  around.
You could easily change the wiring  to get rid of the relay and diode.
Then you could also install a self cancelling fuse into the turn signal side.

I have installed two OEM hazard light kits from the first generation R65, '79-'80 model year bikes and it is not a plug and play on the second generation bikes, you need to know how to read a wiring diagram to get it to work !!!!!! :-/
Just in case anyone here finds an OEM kit .

From looking at the wiring diagram of the 81 thru 84 I would think they didn't split the black connector on the OEM kit  like this one does but has pins that plug into the red connector to pick up the left and right turn circuits I am wondering why they just don't supersede this kit back.

The only pin you need to locate with this kit is the one in the flasher plug and of course  you have to find and unplug the black connector.

Does anyone know if the triangle on the switch cover is turned on the earlier kit. Max shows the earlier cover still available

The switch is dimly internally lit whenever the key is in the ON position and the light comes on bright and flashes with the turn directionals when the hazard switch is turned on .

Ok, just learned something, that the lights will stay on if you turn the key to the OFF position, until you turn the hazard switch   off .

I think I've only used the hazard flashers once while riding, this was in foggy low visibility conditions  .

The switch covers that came with the kits, has the triangle properly positioned, the replacements, I got from Motobins has the triangle off to the side .
I only get 6-7 years on the covers, with the incessant heat here in the low deserts of south central Aridzona .

I've checked the wiring and it is not good for my 1982 R65. This is because the red positive is picked from the left handlebar switch and in my R65 there is no red wire on this switch. If you look at the parts fiche, you see that thee wiring for hazard lights for before 85 is less complex than the one I own.
Of course I can modify the MotoBins supplied wiring or buy the proper harness....
If someone is willing to buy a hazard harness (61 12 1 244 412 )for post 85 bikes, I will gladly sold it for the price of the harness for the pre 85 R65 ( 61 12 1 244 122).
Anyone ?  8-)
Last but not least, the triangle is painted on the plastic cover. So if you change the cover you will have the triangle in proper position   and it is cheaper than the one delivered in the kit ...

Does your harness look like the one I have pictured above

I think you are looking at the wrong side of the BLACK connector
 The red wire goes to the black connector and terminates.  
It does not continue up to the switches  

The picture below are pictures from my US spec 82 R65  
MFG Date 11/81 with the 85 and 0n hazard kit installed
In the last picture you can see the other black connector behind the red one

The only slight problem I had was  the wiring up  to  hazard switch was a little short.

The  whole kit  was cheaper than just switch from MAX Motors

Thanks for the pictures. My bike is an Euro bike. So wiring could/should be different.
But I've somewhere a large pict of the exact wiring and I'll lift the tank to see and try the hazard light.
I tell you how thing goes.

Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa ...
I had checked a spare left hand switch. Yesterday I checked on the bike, and yes, the red wire IS here.
Now, I've just to find some time to plug this thing on the bike !
As she just waited since 1982, I'm not really in a hurry
