Main stand types
« on: May 07, 2014, 03:20:16 PM »
Before I tore down my 81/83 65ls I noticed the main stand was a real pain in the arse to use. Would almost give you a hernia!

Over the years did this get modified and are there anyoptions to make this easier to use. The pic below shows it in use before I set about turning the bike into a pile of metal.

1983 R65LS completely refurbished to my liking.
1985 R80 nearly stock rebuild (basically new bike).
1981 R65 (box of bits).

Oh, how I feel your pain. [smiley=wall.gif] As did I, you have the US Civil War "Mini Ball" centerstand. Argh...

The ground contact points do not appear to be worn too flat but there may be sone stand-to-chassis wear that gives the unit an over-center look.

Yes, the stand design changed late '82 on. Beside having better geometry, the stand has a proper foot pad that doesn't destroy the sole of your boot.

Found the replacement for my '81 'hernia inducer' for cheap on eBay. Simple swap out and so much easier.
