How to use the swingarm bearing removing tool ?
« on: April 29, 2014, 07:37:08 AM »
Hi !
A few month ago I bought the CycleWorks bearing removal tool ( http://www.cycleworks.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=29_33_50&products_id=57 ).
This week end, I plan to use it to change my 32 years old swing arm bearing but I'm a bit puzzled and curious about the use. The accompanying sheet and sketches make little sense to me and I don't want to be caught by a problem with the swing arm on the bench.
Pictures will be invaluable.   :D
(My Google search came with a lot of things unrelated with the job at  hand ... )
Thanks a lot in advance !

I don't have that tool, but I do remember watching a youtube video of it in action when I was considering buying it.

George,

It's a fantastic tool.  Hard to believe all these little bits come together and do a job so well.  Rather than try to explain the assembly, take a look at the pictures.  The pictures are of wheel bearing removal but the concept will be the same for the swing arm. Once the tool is relaxed, place it inside the outer race so the screw heads extend just past the race. Tightening the center screw pushes the interior nut head spreading the screw heads outward to capture the race.  Continue tightening with the nut on the center screw with the outer spacer and the race is forced out safely.  You'll get it figured out once you get started. Hope these help.

Coool !
It seems the worst part is to get the race out of the tool once the job is done !
I'm eager to dismantle the bike  ;D
Will report back !
(Frankly, the guy making the explanation sheet is a terrible drawing guy ...)
