need R50/5 help....
« on: September 06, 2013, 01:52:55 PM »
Hello everyone,  I just picked up this 1970 r50/5 as a restoration project for the winter in fairly good condition.  It runs but smokes, has about 35k miles on it.  So I opened up the cylinders to take a look and the ring gap is almost one mm, but the bore is in very good condition, absolutely no edges to feel.
I decided to buy a set of 1st oversize rings and file them to fit the standard bore.  I searched everywhere on the web and motobins  but could not find any oversize rings for this model.  Is there any model from the 60s that had same bore and ring size?  Any alternatives, suggestions?
I want to keep it original at 500cc as those are disappearing fast or upgraded to 600cc or more.  I know we deal with r65s here but thought to put it out here before I post somewhere else. I know some of you guys here own more than just r65s.
Thanks!!

You may have to search a little but there's a big Slash 5 group on the internet. Google 'em up. I've seen their site a couple times and there are many x'perts to assist you in your piston rinq query.

Good luck.
