Having trouble removing diaphragm needle on a 82 R65 LS. There seems to be a wire clip that I can't get to. Just rather ask than be sorry.

There are two versions to hold the needle in place .

If you look down the center of the slide and see a straight screwdriver slot, you can loosen it back it off, and the needle and retainer come out the top .

Second version has a six point star like looking retainer that holds everything in .

If you have this, rotate the needle and pull down at the same time to get the needle disengaged from the clip, you need to do this probably three times before it comes free  .

Before removing the needle, measure how much sticks out, before removing it, so  when you put it back together you get it right the first time .

Riding all year long since 1993 .
I'll give up my R65, when they pry my cold dead hands from the handlebars !!!!!

Twist and push method did the trick.
