Brake light switch cross reference
« on: November 06, 2011, 12:03:18 PM »
I can't find a brake light switch at Autozone or O'reilly's parts. I'm looking for a Volkswagon 63-70 switch but they don't stock them any more...........any cross reference of a later vehicle I could try.

Napa has it but closed on Sunday and I want it now.

Snowbum's technical site for BMW motorcycles may have an alternate reference number for you .

I find it incredible that an auto parts store is closed on Sunday's, NAPA (No Auto Parts Available) is closed here as well on Sunday's here in the valley of the 'sunstroke' .

When I lived in the Chicago area, auto parts stores were open at 7am on Saturday and Sunday and closed at 7pm .

I remember a few members here making  postings of non-BMW alternate parts for our bikes, if anyone has a reference, could you post it inthe FAQ section .

Joe

First link is an IBMWR index page to substitute parts. I'll also post this in the FAQ section. If anyone knows of other substitute parts they could add them to that thread.

2nd link includes the brake light switch but doesn't say a lot more than you already know about the switch being equivalent to early VW's.

I found one !!!!!   I was going to go with a later model 3 prong switch and searched for a 1979 volkswagon Transporter and up came a 2 prong switch, AutoZone/Duralast Part # RB401

It's installed and works like a champ, 10 bucks American, on a Sunday afternoon

Happy you found the switch locally, Joe. I found the same switch on several of my German car parts websites... just not on a Sunday afternoon. ;D
