I hope this belongs here...I note that NGK lists the BP7ES plug for the R65. (The resistor version would be the  BPR7ES.)   One of the exhaustive articles on plugs for these bikes suggests unless you do hard riding, one heat range hotter is ok.  That would be the BP6ES, the platinum version of which, the BP6EV, (the "V" means platinum tip)  is what I have used for years.  It is annoying that Herr Bosch has obfuscated their plug info by using part numbers for particulat uses instead of the  their former system "W225T35" for example, which provided the kind of info NGK listings offer.  I'll find the Bosch cross for it eventually.

I think that's a reasonable suggestion given BMW will have selected the plug heat range to be safe under the worst case conditions like sustained full throttle. BMW's Bosch recommendations varied from 5 to 7 heat range. I think the 9.2:1 compression engines had 5's and that was changed to 6 when the compression was lowered with some of the detuned engines using 7's.

I have a vague recollection that Lou runs his R65 with one stage hotter NGK BP6ES plugs

That is a handy chart, thanks for sharing it!

I'm running NGK 7s in my R65 right now, which are surprisingly clean (maybe I could enrichen the mixture a bit more, but it seems to be running great without excess temperature or valve issues0.   the old r100, with unknown real mileage (but which could be as much as 100k) is running Bosch 6s but it still needs carb adjustments and is sooty/rich.

In general, I always try to run the coolest plug I can in an engine while observing how "clean" it maintains itself - if it appears to be getting too dirty and not an oil leak/rich mix problem I go up a step.

My BPR7EIX are running real clean as well.  I was thinking about changing to one level colder -- BPR8EIX.
