One of the few things I need is a reset rubber cover.  I have been using a brake bleeder dust cap but I would like to find a source of the real thing.

I found a machinist who could make the bushings for me, and the precision work on the shafts as well after figuring out what to make them from. Now last week he retired! I'll have to get him to train me to do the stuff he did for me, and try to buy the equipment to do it. Scary times!

It sounds like you need a watch-maker's lathe.  I had the pleasure of seeing my neighbor's entire workshop before he died last summer.  His entire inventory has been liquidated, I'm pretty sure.
It was a cute little thing, though!

re. speedo problems.  One guy told me years ago that if the cable breaks it will make the speedo work strangely because the broken ends of the cable still touch & interact, but ...... anyway, that's one theory.

A personal odometer experience on my BMW car:  the little drive gear on the shaft had loosened after 35 years, it was originally a press fit onto the shaft.  So I removed the speedo/odometer unit and was able to use the proverbial Large Hammer to once again "press fit" the gear onto the shaft.  Has worked just fine for the last 5 years, so I reckon I've got 30 more years to go before it again needs The Hammer.

Cheers,

Carl
