Has anyone replaced a clutch?
How much time am i looking @?
How many times am i likely 2 swear and curse? ;)

My manual warns against reassembly without the clutch alignment tool, has anyone got any suggestion for or against?

My clutch started slipping a few years (10?) ago at around 90,000km. Like brakes, clutch wear is very dependent on riding style, so 60,000km is not unlikely.

I had pulled rear drive car gearboxes and replaced clutches in my youth; it was a pretty painful experience with a Morris Major, so expecting it to be painful, but being unable to afford to pay someone else to do it at the time, I got stuck in.

It was a revelation. The gearbox is tiny, everything is accessible, and you don't need lifting gear. The only special tool I needed was a socket to remove the swingarm pivot, which I had machiend down slightly from a standard socket which was took large to fit by a friend.

My driven plate was shagged so I had it relined by my tame brake and clutch place.

They checked the diaphragm spring in the driven plate, but without any spec all they could do was report that it was very light compared to the car and truck clutches they usually saw.

I aligned the driven plate by hand pretty much as described above and it went together first try with little fuss, in complete contrast to a Morris Major done with the proper tool!

When completed, the clutch gripped like new and has been fine ever since.
