Hand Shields on '79-'80s
« on: March 06, 2011, 03:27:29 AM »
Hey Randy, did you have to butcher that right-hand shield much to get it to fit?  Or do you have a later, rectangular master cylinder?

And do you have a picture of your cockpit (a daylight picture).  Is that a GPS mounted?

Here is the right shield after I mounted it:

I was wondering if you'd have to make accomodation for the rearview mirror mounting holes..

No - they fit just fine.

I have a round brake fluid resevoir and had to shave the hand guard just a bit with a dremel tool to get it to fit.  If you don't have a dremel, get one, they are great for small jobs like this.  Aside from this, they mount right up to the mirror holes, no other modifications needed.

The GPS mount is a RAM mount that I bought from gpscity.com (around $20 or $30).  They sell them cheaper than going through RAM!  I bought a refurbished Garmin Nuvi via ecost.com (around $80), bought an extended warranty via squaretrade.com ($10 for a year or two, I forget).  I take zip lock bags with me on trips in case it rains...has been working great for two years now.  I can buy a lot of zip lock bags for the price of a waterproof gps!

Attached are a couple of older photos.

By the way, I just realized the photo's of the GPS mounting was before I switched to a 90S handlebar from Flanders.  The mount still fits on the new bar but there isn't much space for anything else you may want to mount.

The attached photo shows the gps on the euro style bar....albeit you will have to zoom in a bit to see it.  Unfortunately I don't have a photo available of just the bar and mount.
