I've ridden it a few times, but in late October early November, no way would I cross it during the hot season. I'm crazy, but I'm not insane. I don't even like driving that route in the cage in the hot season.  Forecast for El Centro tomorrow is 103 F. but it will be a dry heat, just like your oven. I don't think I'll have the top down on the Z-3 on the way back.

Well, I just got back from SandyEggo, got the transmission and the clutch/pressure plates. $630 for the trans overhaul, and $200 for the clutch. But from the looks of the trans parts, it was in need of work, all of the ball bearings feel rough when you spin them. I've had enough for one day, left home at 4:10 am and got back at 8:45 pm. About 825 miles which included a little tourist diversion , to a few favorite spots that I havn't been to in a few years. Got pretty hot, 105 F. in the low deserts of southern California and Arizona!

Got motivated today, after working in the front yard cleaning up all the dried remnants of the wildflowers. Blocked the crankshaft, removed the flywheel replaced the oil pump cover seal, I replaced the rear main seal about 6 years ago, so I don't think it was leaking, the pump seal was flat and about half the thickness of the new o-ring. Installed the relined clutch disc and machined pressure plates, needed to use the long bolts and nuts to get the assembly together so I could install the clutch bolts, never needed it before, so I know the clutch was worn. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get the transmission back on, if not next Tuesday is going to be a busy day on the bike.
