Handlebar Throttle Tube
« on: November 07, 2010, 12:39:37 PM »
Installed the new parts that I got from Motobins this past week (throttle tube, cam /chain and throttle top) .

Noticed something on the throttle tube, it's now made of a plastic material, except for the gear teeth which are still metal .

The last tube I replaced was about 10 years ago on my'81 R65 and it was all cast metal, is this a recent change ?

Also the rubber grip seemed to be 'glued' on, I couldn't get it removed and didn't want to break anything before I even got it installed .

That must be a recent change.  I only got mine a couple of years ago, and it's all metal.  I think I gently cut off the grip, if it came with one.  I can't remember now.

What kind of grease will you use?  I gobbed mine up with some spray lithium grease, but I just recently had to re-do it.  I wonder if there is something better.

I use a grease we use at work, Molykote 33 .

When we come up on the end of the month at work, we have to check all grease, sealants and paint for expiration dates .

If they expire, they have to be disposed of, I take the liberty of bringing home the occasional tube, if I'm running low .
