Pushrod Tube Grommets
« on: August 22, 2010, 05:01:51 PM »
After the rather wicked run up the Three Twisted Sisters in the Texas Hill Country, I discovered an oily mist on the rear rim. Cleaned up the scoot and after two weeks of daily riding, discovered the pushrod tube grommets are weeping oil. Have ordered fresh 'uns from Huckys.

I recall on this forum a DIY PVC grommet install tool. A lot cheaper than the BMW factory tool. Anyone recall this helpful tool? I kinda think it was from Aida...

Would appreciate any help.

No "installation tool" needed, lube and slip over the tube...

When I replaced mine two years ago I did not use a tool...I just eyeballed it.  It seemed to work fine with no leaks.  But if there is a tool I can build myself I'll buikd it and use it next time.

I'm sure I have a drawing of that tool.  I Will post it when I get home from work.

Barry, that's a tool (in lieu of a big screwdriver) for seating in the tube to get a bit more "squish" out of the seals.  It's kind of a band-aid to get a little more out of a seal but when they get hard and start leaking it's "iffy" at best.

Yep. That's it. Thanks! [smiley=beer.gif]

Until I get an opportunity to replace the tube grommets, I thought I'd try the quickie ghetto fix.

Thanks, again, Barry.
