Odometer Reset Button
« on: June 10, 2010, 02:33:35 PM »
Someone awhile back came up with a replacement for the protective rubber button for the odometer reset button on the speedometers that had the reset on the glass face of the indicator .

I need to replace mine, and can't find a link to doing a search .

Anyone remember anything about it, I kind of thought it was Sue in Canada, but the search came back with nothing .

Bob,

Before I removed the instrument pod from the '81 R65 and went to the Vapor, I also was missing the reset button. I found a tapered plastic cap -do not recall what it came off of- that fit the hole and kept water out. Of course, I had to hook a fingernail under it and then use a toothpick or handy twig to reset the odo. Kinda farm implement-like.

I remember that thread!

Unfortunately cannot find it either at the moment - but possibly Justin B may have found the rubber cover?    I'll try to look again later this evening.

I think remember that a rubber dust cover that goes on a Ducati brake bleeder valve will fit.  I also remember that tit was pretty expensive for a little rubber bit.

Let us know what you settle on.  The rubber cap on My speedo #2 is going.  I patched it up somewhat with black silicone, but that really stiffened it and I don't expect it to last for much longer.

I have written a PM to Bob. My solution other than the brake bleeder rubber cap is any flexible cap off a number pad for a calculator. There are replacement rubber covers my brother had. I used  'MC' or memory cancel as it seemed appropriate. Put Velcro on the bottom rim and glue a round of velcro over the button. Use a good glue with the 'stick on' velcro and a leather punch to cut out the "washer" of velcro.
I am in the process of trying to find my number pad extras but to no avail so far.

I have weatherproof "boots" meant for push-button switches on ours.  They have to be modified a bit and then I "glue" them to the speedo lens with clear RTV.

I've got the data at home so could get it to you later this evening. I fix speedometers and have a few extra buttons on hand. They're about $10 and if you also need the retainer part, they're a bit more. It looks stock and works great.
