Saddlebag Lock Tumbler Removal - How?
« on: March 29, 2010, 04:15:02 PM »
I want to remove the tumblers from my saddlebags to have them keyed the same as my ignition key.

I got lucky on one, and it came out on the first try, but the other 5 have left me stumped.

Can you tell me a trusted procedure for this? Thanks!

OK - Here goes.... (It's easier done than said.)

1. Put the key in the lock and move to the unlock position.
2. Open the latch with the key in place.
3. Move the key to the lock position.
Now you can get to the underside of the lock cylinder.
There is a tab (Last position of the tumblers) - about midway down the latch.
4. Use a bent paperclip or the like and find that tab and push up.  That will allow the cylinder to continue to rotate anti-clockwise, releasing the lock cylinder.

The tab will only be accessible with the key in the LOCKED position.
Hope this makes sense.  Good luck!

Jon said that the single sided tumblers are no longer available from BMW.  I hope you already have what you need to do the re-keying, right?

AÏDA - YOU DID IT!!!  ;D ;D ;D

Thank you, and those that gave the answer!  :D

Tell Jon that I got a brand new set of single-sided tumblers with my cases.  (phew!)

I made a couple of minor changes to lines 3 & 4 of your instructions!

BTW - the tab is not visible at all, with the tumbler in place.
I ended up using my [almost] 90 degree right-angle-tipped screwdriver to press on the illusive tab.

Happy Motoring!
