Double shifting

Does anyone practice the double shifting?

When I do it everything works fine on the double shift, but when moving one more gear down the clutch seems to be still engaged.

The r65 ls has about 50K on it, the clutch has never been done, nor it slips, and the cable is two years newish.

Any Idea of why the clutch seems to remain engaged (it's like being stuck in gear without being able to get out of it)

Perhaps I should stop doing double shifting?

Do you mean you skip a gear on the way up, while accelerating?
I don't think I would recommend doing that.

On downshifting, I typically engage each gear momentarily while slowing down.

These are not Japanese gearboxes with multi-plate wet clutches.  They like things slow and easy, a lot like an old pick-up truck.

Has a the transmission input spline been cleaned and lubricated ?

Have you checked the clutch cable adjustment ?

double shifts going up are not a problem on my bike - If I am accelerating pretty hard in 3rd gear I may just double toe it into 5th gear
if I am up to ~ 55 mph cruising speed.  But, going back down is another story - these are not wet-clutch bikes, and they don't have modern synchronizers in the gearbox either.   You will get some gear gnashing on any airhead transmission, I think, if you start going down to lower gears without taking a moment to match up  engine and drivetrain speed at each gear.   As Rob indicated, these bikes aren't designed to be shifted casually or overly fast.

Yes, the "problem' only happens when I downshift.
Let's say I am in fifth gear and I go to Third gear with no problem, on my next downshift to second the clutch seems to be 'stuck'

I've just replaced the bushing in the clutch actuating arm, regreased, and rechecked clutch cable.

Gearbox was overhauled a year ago for a broken spring and updated with newer shifting mechanisms.

I guess I'll stop double shifting and see if annoyance disappears >:(

Third to second can sometimes create a "false neutral".

The best way to recover is to upshift to 3rd again, and then back down to 2nd.

Did this just begin?  Or has it been happening since you had the transmission worked on?

If they replaced the shift lever seal, it is possible that is not quite flat and is causing binding of the shift shaft.

Or you just need a spline lube.....
