Started Work On The '84 LS

Finally got started on the LS this afternoon .

Got a few surprises, first the not so nice surprise, I drained the fuel tank, I was going to put a quart of alcohol in the tank, and then swish it around, and then drain it out and let it dry out, well the fuel cap is locked, and out of the three different keys that came with the bike, none unlock the fuel cap .

Any ideas on how to remove the fuel cap ?

Pulled all of the items out of the rear storage area, and found a spare ICU, and a pair of prescription glasses in an old sock .

My main goal today was to remove the front rotors, and the entire hydraulic part of the front brake system, accomplished that .

I went to remove the black plastic cover on the right side of the fairing, and found a sealed black plastic envelope, in it, I found $300 in twenties, must have been hidden there by the original owner, on one of his road trips, and forgotten about !!!!

If the fuel cap has the half-circle hoop, run a rope through the handle, form a knotted loop for your head and one arm to pass through. get on the bike, get into the rope loop, and give a firm, straight up BUMP. Cap ought to come out.

Potential crisis averted, the previous owner gave me a 'wad o' BMW motorcycle keys', only problem, is that none of them worked in any of the locks on the LS .

He had 4 other BMW's, must have gotten them mixed up .

Found the keys to the LS, and the Moto Guzzi, in the 'box o' parts' that I had on top of a cabinet in the garage .

Tomorrow, I'm going to have 5 sets of keys made up for each bike .

Wow, and a stash of 'forgotten' money tucked into the fairing !
That bike just jumped $300 in net value overnight !
At least that will easily cover all your key-making activities !

I love it when stuff like that happens - it never happens to ME, mind you, but I still get excited for those that do get the happy surprises.

There were 15 twenty dollar bills, consecutive serial numbers, 1988 series, from the looks of the plastic envelope, it had been in there a long time .

Found an interesting 'modification', the ignition coil is not OEM, it's a round coil, with dual ignition leads, from the looks of the mounting bracket, it's obviously 'homemade', it's got aircraft grade hardware securing it .
