Instruments and RS conversion

[size=14]Has anyone thought about replacing the stock instrument cluster with that of a /6 /7 instrument cluster (the R60/6 has the same rear end ratio as the R65) instead of modifying the R65 instrument bracker and using bark-backs?

I have thought about many solutions to the instrument cluster problem, and think that a modification of the original holder will be the right answer:

See the thread on the rs conversion: http://www.bmwr65.org/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1220354879

greetings from a sunny north, very good riding conditions

Or, finding the correct bracket that was used on authorities bikes, I may still have a couple left...

last autumn, I succesfully modified the original mountings to allow use of original instruments and brake master cylinder, without requiring bark-backs, in my RS fairing. It can be done nicely but requires a fair bit of careful fitting, its all recorded on the thread Trolle mentions.  Justin's instrument brackets will of course be perfect for an RT conversion, I was really disappointed that I couldn't get that type of mount to work with my RS setup. Not enough clearance for the cockpit or brake hoses.
I do think fitting R60 instruments would be quite a nice alternative. But the mounting bracket may present a challenge. It's also important, I think, to avoid the temptation to drill mounting holes for the bracket in the top yoke (big risk of causing a crack).
BUT, how about a single unit digital speedo and rev counter with all warning lights etc etc built in. There's several of these units on the market now. Could look very nice on in an RS fairing. Prices up to about £180 for the top of the range model with trip computer etc.

I resist cutting up an original bracket as new ones cost a lot more than one of these special brackets and there are folks out there that need a replacement "stock" mount.
