Well the R65 now is running strong without a troubling little hitch or miss. I chased that little miss all around. Bean can, electrical, carbs, gas filters, balancing etc all the standard stuff. No joy. Finally bought some cheap testing gauges and did a compression check and that was ok. Then did a leak down. Not so good. Pulled the heads cylinders and pistons and took them to Boxer Works in Watkinsville Georgia. Nate says "bad valves, recessed, common problem on your year bike." He had the next door machine shop completely rebuild the heads and Murrey, one of his mechanics, recommended that I change the cylinders and pistons at the same time because of general wear and ordered the 860 Sieben Rock parts.
I did the assemble work because I am a certified shade tree mechanic. Bike stated first roll over. I have started the break in cycles and did a first ride. The old bike did just fine so I probably had all the parts back in the right order.
Boxer Works will probably be around for a long time because the owner charges for their work and it was not cheap. I am happy with the outcome.
