Dyna coil install
« on: August 03, 2025, 09:22:19 AM »
1980 BMW R65. I am installing 3.0 ohm Dyna dual coil. I cannot find any instructions or video on how to install on stock R65.  I need to know the wiring from the stock double coils to this single unit.  Thanks for any help.

Take the green and blue wire from #15 on the rear coil and connect that to one side of of the Dyna then both black wires from #1 on the front coil and connect them to the other side of the dyna. The link wire between the two old coils is not needed.

If the dyna coil is the type with the laminated core sticking out at each end, then for best performance ensure to mount using a metal bracket that bridges those two ends in order to complete the inductance loop.

Hey Barry, I checked your instructions.  I have 3 wires going to front original coil. I have 2 wires going to rear original coil.  Front coil has a Yellow/black and a black wire coming from wiring harness. The yellow black went into number 1 (neg) terminal on original front coil. There is also a thicker black wire coming from starter? Going to 15 (pos) terminal on front original coil along with a solid black wire from harness.
Rear coil has blue/green and yellow/black wires coming from wiring harness.
When I follow your instructions I have a yellow/black left over at rear coil and a yellow/black left over at front coil. Does thick black wire from starter? Go to new coil along with smaller black coil from front coil? What do I do with the yellow/black wires from coming from harness that would go into old coils?

I believe that extra black wire goes to the tachometer .
