R65 air filters
« on: February 21, 2009, 02:47:13 PM »
Other than the high dollar K&N filters, i've had a problem sourcing a replacement air filter for the R65s. The scooter's filter has a cast-in-place reference to a Purolator AF 3135 but I can't seem to locate the animal.

Any ideas and/or sources would be appreciated.

Aside from the K&N, the only other place that I've been able to get them are either 1) dealer, or BMW-specialty places like capitalcycle.com
I've found numerous replacement air filters from eastern asia for the oilheads, but choices are not wide for airheads, it seems.
I'm still running a "stock" air filter, but it wasn't cheap and I may "upgrade" to the reusable K&N this year or next.

... Just checked the purolator website - it is pretty useless.  They do have a motorcycle filters document, but it appears to only have oil filters, and for that matter, I don't think that the application information is correct in it.

Or get yourself a clamshell filter holder.  I'm pretty sure the round filters are less expensive than the square ones?

And the bike will look better...imo...;)

Viola!

Thanks, Rich. Two good options!

And a question for y'all that have shopped MotoBins previously; how long does the delivery/shipping time run? Any idea on the Brit's charges?  "It's not that I'm cheap. I just have short arms and deep pockets."  ;D  And two R65s to feed...

Monte,
Moto Bins takes 'bout 3 weeks, often less to get parts to the desert here. Even with the current conversion rate, shipping & customs I'm finding that I come out ahead a few bucks and a few days less than that well known discount dealer in the presidents former home city. Most recently I bought a master cylinder for a side job and was almost $20 to the better.
They are proper shopkeepers as well. I just received an apology note from them for the delay in getting their new catalog out.

Thanks, Rich, for the MotoBins info. They do have a competitive price on what BMW refers to as "rear brakes". Will likely go with them for the slower-downer brake light activators.

I ordered an oiled-foam "K&N wannabe" from Dennis Kirk after you posted the link. $27.99 plus eight bucks shipping is still a pretty fair deal.
