Blast from the past.
« on: July 07, 2017, 02:14:11 AM »
I've had two attempts at posting this message, r65.org has crashed on me both times.

I don't feel like typing out a message that took me 30 minutes the first time, so stuff it - here are the photos, I say somethign about them later when I'm in a better mood.

A small fraction, Steve owns (according to his museum curator) around 180 motorcycles, most of which are fully restored and either operable or able to be made operable with minimal effort. Steve has collections in Cairns, in Ireland and the USA. Due to legislation passed by our increasingly inept Federal Government it is prohibitively expensive to bring any "valuable" machines made after 1980 into the country unless you are prepared to sign a declaration that they are for museum display only (i.e. will not be ridden or registered in Australia) and will be re-exported for sale, in default of which a truly punitive rate of duty applies. Unless it is something truly special (like for instance the 1 of only 6 ever made Egli CB-X) it simply is not worth his while to bring a lot of his bikes home to Australia.

That said, what is at Blast from the past is a frequently changed sample of what he does have in Australia.
