Yesterday we took the 'adventure" bikes out for a gallop yesterday. Took almost as long to clean them as it did to do the ride (Black mountain Rd Kuranda to Julateen). Actually it was a hoot, the young boys and girls on trail bikes were a little bemused to see our heavy and unwieldy machines on what is a pretty rough bit of trail that used to be a road (the National Park section anyway), they would have been even more bemused I suspect if they had known how old we are! Sylvia had a mild fall, lost traction and laid the BMW down, no damage except to her pride. I was glad to see the end of the national park section as the KLE copped so much mud in the radiator it was starting to overheat, I contemplated trying to sluice out the mud using water from a stream but decided that once I was on roads where I could do more than zot kph it wouldn't be a problem, and that in fact proved to be the case. Looking at the photos I seem to have caught Sylvia in a "contemplative" mood, wondering "WTF am I doing here and how will I ever get that dirt off?". Well all I can say is CT-18 is your best friend in these circumstances. to any Australians reading, the photos were taken where the "bump track" intersects Black Mountain Rd - until the Kuranda railway was built (and shortly after that the Road from Cairns to Kuranda) a coach (or bullock dray) from Pt Douglas to Granite Crk (now called Mareeba) was the only way to access the metal mines of the Atherton Tabelands.
