First commute of 2014
« on: February 13, 2014, 11:07:36 AM »
It's hard to believe, but Monday of last week I did my first ride of the year, the initial break-in ride for the new rings.  It was a beautiful, sunny, warm day, and I remember basking in the sun whilst waiting for the oil to drain after the ride.  Then we got 18" of snow.  Sorry Davidpdx, the snow was probably my fault!

Today is my first ride to work on the R65, and I'm going a long way home as I need to pick up some stuff in Corvallis.  Just light rain so far today so I can't complain about that.  The heated grips work, not that I really needed them in 45 degree weather.  But I had to try them.

I still have snow on my driveway but I managed to waddle the bike out in the tire ruts from my pickup.

67 degrees, sun, no wind at 1630 hours.

Most active motorcyclists I saw this afternoon are the three Denton PD motor patrol officers running a speed trap on a bridge downslope of a major east-west highway through our vil.

Two Beemer police bikes and one of the new Victory police issue. The city has been on BMWs for several years. To me, the Victory bike just looks a bit strange with that tapered, pointy rear fender almost touching the pavement.

Forecast from today's 67 degree high continues to trend upward to next Tuesday's 75 degree charmer. All sunshine and light air.

Finally, the roads will warm up and I can continue to scuff in the R100S new Bridgestones.

I've had about 8" at my house since 2/7.  Much of it came down white though, so I measured it after it melted.

No worries now as Mr. Obama is visiting your dry area to "discuss" the drought. ::)

Steady rain all the way to work this morning.  Also, my main route was flooded so I had to back track and ride through Salem.  During rush hour.  And my stupid Olympia suit leaked, crotch area.  I had dry clothes at work anyway, but still.  Maybe I'll go for a Darien suit next time, as I know the Roadcrafter leaks, too.

We are having a mild couple of days.  42F today and higher tomorrow!
There is still 6 inches of snow everywhere.

Today, in the much maligned Swindon Town (United Kingdom), it is forecast to be 9 degrees Celcius and no rain.

So I wheeled out the R100 an d rode it to work for the first time in ages.

However I do have a slightly damp left foot.  And I stink of fuel!

Looks like on of my carbs is slightly incontinent. >:(

Ho hum.

28 days commuting so far in 2014.  That's a record for me.

It's been a relatively mild winter so far and although it's been wet I've never actually set out to ride in the rain and only ever been caught out by a light shower. The bike has got mucky though. I have to keep washing it and checking the salt hasn't got past the waxoyl.

Feb 6 I was in Lebanon, Or. staying at and ADV friends house.  I was headed for Cal. with the campervan and trailer with the bikes.  It was snowing with an inch on the ground when I left and headed south on I5. 100 miles later and I was out of it. Phew! The van is scary in slick conditions.  Apparently they closed the highway behind because of a massive pileup.
