Morning Test Ride
« on: January 09, 2011, 08:02:06 AM »
It was a cold morning. It's the middle of the cold season here in the Philippines.

I've just finished having the first oil filter change the bike has had for years. I also did a quick tune-up with the carburetors as I have found out that I was running a bit too rich.

I hit the North Luzon Expressway end to end. I was quite shocked on how the bike felt. The engine revs much more smoothly and the dead spot I always hit between 2-3K rpm was gone. I was worried when it rained quite hard during the short sprint. The R65 tend to blow its fuses off when it gets wet and my temporary kill switch fix was not exactly confidence inspiring when wet. Even so, I got back home with all fuses still intact and the all electronics still in perfect working order.

Although my boots somehow got filled with water, it was a very fulfilling short ride.

Good for you sir!

I've got 5 inches of snow on the ground this morning so If I go for a test ride, it will be on the Montesa Dirt bike.

Tourmaster Rain boots are good at keeping you feet dry... 8-)

Good show Julio!!!! Things are looking up! Well taken care of, our bikes will reward us for years to come. It's sorta like fixing an old friend...the goodness just comes back to you in spades!!
1983 R65LS - LRB still my favourite!? 1988 Honda NX250, "Toodles Too" and a Suzuki DR650, "Calypso." All stored in the "Brrrmmm Closet".

yesterday I had the satisfaction of telling a harley poser that his leathers and boots cost more than I paid for my R 65.

Well played, Julio!

You might consider replacing those naked, euro-style ceramic fuses with modern, blade-style fuses in a waterproof holder. No more corrosion issues and flaky circuits... at least due to fuse issues.
