Gertie the Snow Queen
« on: December 19, 2010, 09:57:37 AM »
With our second Arctic blast and temperatures at only -5c at noon i had doubts about going to the Yorkshire Bike Forum Christmas meet but as i felt the need for speed i went anyway.Gertie hasnt been out for over a month and i was getting stir crazy so off we went in some testing conditions, started first time no problem, a bit of dirt track skill came in handy on the untreated roads but the big problem was keeping the visor clean.
The meet was worth the effort and well attended my favourite bit was the award for most accident prone aparently the winner had dropped his bike on every club rideout...stupid is ect
I got to meet some of the Biker FM DJ,s and a good afternoon was had by all.

That's quite 'refreshing' looking, as long as you don't have to live in it !!!!!!!

Currently at 0945, it's 60F/16C and sunny in the Phoenix area .

You are a brave cowboy, Lou!

'Round these parts, the road conditions in your photo would warrant school and business closings.

You're a hero.

At today's temperatures I can't do above 5 miles before my hands freeze.

Hope you treated Gertie to a good wash to get all that salt off.

Had it all planned...pressure washer set up before i  got set off, started to clean off then discovered no water to the Workshop, pipes frozen but just enough in the tank for a quick clean down.
Must admit the Motorway stretch was a bit chilly to the fingers with the wind chill.
Just got back from Manchester only -10 over Saddleworth Hey Ho dreams of Aridzona/Texas and a chinwag with Bob and Monte.

It was 74F/23C at 1430 when I got off of work, took an extended 50 mile ride, instead of going straight home .

Western Canadian and Alaskan 'snowbirds' all over the place fouling up traffic around here this time of year .

Over abundance of 'snowbirds', and no hunting season !!!!! [smiley=rifle.gif]

Good for you Lou.  I have yet to be "tested" as you have done.  In the past prior planning has always kept me out of such conditions including DOT highway "cams" in mountain passes and changing a route from west through Montana and Wyoming to south through Utah to Colorado Springs.  Although I was saying prayers when going up the last 1000 feet to the summit of an 11,212 foot pass in Colorado in second gear at half throttle (the only place it would run properly).

I'm trying to keep from having to use my new trials skills on the road.  :D

Came close last night.  Rode home from work in the snow.  Emergency vehicles everywhere!  Lots of people following to close and riding their brakes -- an exciting ride.

My windshield is covered with ice this AM.  So much for flying to BOSTON today.  Nor'easter of winter has arrived.  :(

Nor'easter of winter has arrived.
Yep, I was in that mess then.  We had 10 inches in North Carolina and I was in Atlanta and missed it!  :-(  Only saw a couple there.  But, we're back home and there are remnants left.

It's gonna be 66 degrees on Saturday...time to get the bike back out!
