Phillip Island trip

Evening all.
Just got back a fortnight or so ago, from a trip to the Australian Moto GP at Phillip Isalnd.
What a great trip, it was like disneyland for blokes.

I can't seem to shrink the photos?

I have a lot of picutres, but I'll try and keep it short, trip was 1200km each way, from Sydney downt eh south coast of Aus to the Island, 130km east of melbourne. I followed the east and south coast aswell as heading inland thrugh some great mountain ranes. The best bits I don't have pictures for, as I was riding!! It was raining the whole way down, and teh winds were "what the hell am I doing, shite here comes a semi-trailer" gusty. Way back was beautiful. Highlight was being in a pack of 60 motorcycles of all kinds in a single lane, at 130km/h for an hour or more, with 30 another ten cars back and every town being filled with bikes, 1000kms up and down the coast for a couple of days each way.

Ready to leave

Breakdown, storm coming

Campsite

bikes, bikes, bikes (note the putty on my rocker cover - made a hole in it on way down)

Man, going to Phillip Island for the MotoGP race is a dream of mine!!!  It'd be a much bigger trip for me, though!  I'm hoping to make the race in Indy next year...

What happened on your breakdown?  You must have gotten fixed up OK to make it to the races and back again.  Love the picture of your campsite...says it all.  Beautiful spot with a rainbow and wind to boot.  You got pretty close there at the podium, too.  LOVE THAT RACING!!!  I just hope next year we see a little more competition, if they get the tire situation figured out.

Thanks for sharing the pics and story!  ;D

Make the trip. You  wont regret it, and then you can head off up teh Great Ocean Road, an amazing drive/ride, and then, into the middle of Aus.

It sure was windy.
If you look at wher Phillip Island is, there is nothing between there and Antarctica really, so when the Southerly's come in hard, they bite.

Never been so cold in my life on the first night. We were sittin gour beers on teh ground, outside the tent, and drinking them as they were. It was so cold we didn't want the any colder.

That means its REALLY cold in Australia. Apparently worst its been in ten yrs.

The break down was bodged up with a new set of cap plugs, and of course, when I tried to have it diagnosed, it wouldn't do it. Since coming back though, the problem has become worse, and instead of having a flat spot between 3500-4000, and since changing the coil, the problem seems to present itself at difernt levels.

Carbies under scrutiny as we speak.

Phillip Island is ALWAYS windy!!! And cold a good part of the year.
Here's a couple pics of when I was last there a couple years ago, the sign says it all, and the 'Nobbies' at the back of the island are even better when a storm hits...........but hard to get pics when the camera is being ripped out of your hand by the wind and spray covers everything.
BTW, there are a few utilities that can reduce an image file, 640 x 480 seems the best reduction for forum posting. Most basic photoshop type programs will allow it.
