Title: Interesting weekend at Willville
Post by: msbuck on October 08, 2007, 10:18:45 PM
Just got back from a weekend up at Willville and although the campers were sparse, they were very interesting!  Will told me a fellow with a R65S had come in and was camping back in the back.  Off I went to check it out and found this beautiful R65SP...yes, SP...

I tried to take some pictures of this pristine bike, but didn't do such a great job.  It had a smoke blue/silver paint scheme similar to what you see on a R90S.  He told me it was his wife's bike, he has an Orange R90S and so they have 'matching' bikes.  The SP stands for Short Person, Special Paint, Sweetie Pie (what he calls his wife), Special Performance...etc.  He had Hagon gas shocks, bar end mirrors, heated grips, the S faring with extra guages, these neat little lights out front for more visibility.  The tail piece came from an LS and he had a Sargent seat on it.  Wish I'd gotten better pictures, but here's a very dark picture and a very foggy one...

I can't believe I didn't get his name!!  But I did tell him about our little site here.  After he told me the R65 was a great little woman's bike, I had to point out that there were 4 or 5 women on this list of almost 300 and the rest were men.  He was out on a week's trip with this R65 as well!!!

So that was the fun on Saturday.  Then on Sunday a couple on a Ural/sidecar rig showed up from Australia.  They were on a year long trip touring the US.  We had a wonderful evening around the campfire talking about the Urals and Australia.  This fellow bought the Ural site unseen on the Internet, flew to San Francisco, went to Seattle to pick up the bike.  He had never ridden a Ural or even driven a sidecar for that matter.  His steep learning curve came in downtown Seattle traffic driving on the side of the road that was not his usual!  Have to admire someone with that kind of gumption.  You can check out their story and follow their travels on this website... http://www.thesunshineteam.com.au/index.htm

Missed my chance to get a picture of them as well.   :(

So, you never know who or what you're going to see when you go to Willville!!   ;D

Jeez, Aida, I'm so sorry to hear that you and Graham had such a lousy weekend at Willville!   :-[
Guess I'm just lucky, huh, in that I hate motorcycles, and camping, and Virginia, and fun, and...  [smiley=wall.gif]

(...dammit.... ;) )

Yeah, Aida, stop bringing us down with your depressing stories....  ::)

Hey, I ended up writing up a piece on my Willville weekend for our club newsletter, and you and Graham are prominently mentioned!  If you will send me a PM with your email address, I'd like to send you a .pdf copy for you and Graham, OK?

(And I never even knew BMW made a R65"sp"!)    :o

Thanks for the great pics Aïda!! That is some bike. So I suppose his battery cover graphics just go to show us that we can name our own model!

I got back from MI last night and that may be the last of the longer trips this year.
Now I must get the final mileage off the bikes and send the totals into the MOA as I signed up for the Long Distance Contest this year and just may be fairly high on the Ontario Canada listing.  The contest ended yesterday, October 14th. Gee I wonder how many miles Ardys Kellerman got this year???? 80,000 miles this time last year she got. I bet she doesn't have a garden!
