Title: afAMA Vintage Days.....
Post by: dewjantim on July 29, 2007, 04:20:48 PM
Just got back this afternoon from AMA Vintage Days. Man, three days of old bikes, racing, worlds largest swap-meet, and , oh yeah, did I say bikes. There was every kind of bike ever made, DKW, Penton, Ossa, KTM, Harley (lots of sportsters), Aprilla, Ducati, Laverda, and many, many more. Yes there were even BMWs there. Saw several R65s including one silver R65LS which I passed on the way in. The Sportster was the featured marque and there were lots of nice ones in attendance. I really enjoyed walking around the pit area and eyeballing the racers. My favorite was a R65LS (of course) in Henna red and hopped up to the max. It looked great flying around that racetrack passing those "other" motorcycles. Spotted one of the R65 T-shirts, but was to far away to catch up to him. Quite a few bike riders from my area (Ashland, Ky) were there and we all got together from time to time to chat and have refreshments. If you have never been to AMA Vintage days and love motorcycles, you should really try to go there next year. It is located at Mid-Ohio race car course near Lexington, Ohio. Dew.

Dew, that musta been Rob in the R65 shirt, he said he was gonna wear white one day & black the next.
I take it the weather held okay? Got any pics you can post?

Did they happen to mention what the featured marque next year would be?

Yes, I made it to VMD.  Yes, I saw lots of neat stuff.  No, I didn't particularly have the time of my life, but that is only relevant to the of photos.
I didn't arrive until 2PM Sat., and I had no idea where to camp, so I camped in the big camping area.  It wasn't so bad - but I was far away from anyone I might have partied with Sat. night.  Oh yeah, I forgot my cell phone at home!  All I had was two people's #'s from Boxerworks, but it was frustrating.

I saw one other R65, a silver LS.
I didn't go back up to the mass of humanity to wander the pit area camera in hand on Sunday - sorry.  I think I am acknowledging my discomfort with crowds and social situations in general.   It felt good to just get out of there after packing.
I know my engine didn't like trolling in first gear in that heat.

So here are my photos, all 38 of them.  Mostly just neat bikes I saw wandering around a small portion of the swap meet.  The place is huge!  Just click on the picture:

Cool pics, Rob!   [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Some really "interesting" bikes, too!  I was curious about the one that was red, with what looked like the letters "HHH" on the tank.  Any idea of the make?  Never have seen one like that before.

You also had a couple of nice looking older Beemers as well, especially the black /2 with bags that had the rear signals integrated into them!  Suh-weeeet!    ;)

Maybe next year, since I'll be out of school (finally!) I'll be able to make the trip up there and see this extravaganza for myself!

John,  I have no idea what the "HHH" brand was.  The model name (?) looks to be Russian, or some other Eastern European language.

Dew, I don't know when BMW will be the featured marque again.  It was featured just a few years ago.
