OK, Dirk has inspired me to show off a few of my pictures from our trip through Europe back in May of 1996. (It wasn't 1994 as I stated in Dirk's thread.) I just scanned these pictures in and I am definitely not the photographer that Dirk is, but here they are...
This was a lunch stop on the border, I think it was going from Germany to France, but I'm not sure.

Here we are getting ready to head into the Black Forest with a group on the Beemers.

Andermat, Switzerland was one of our rest days. Check out the streets...
(https://bmwr65.org/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi129.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fp210%2Fcabcgec%2FEurope%25201996%2FEurope9.jpg&hash=62f57a0cbcdb1cdc49672237f39221b8fad50ad6)
Here was an interesting car in Andermat. We were almost snowed in here and had to take the long way out because the pass was closed.
(https://bmwr65.org/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi129.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fp210%2Fcabcgec%2FEurope%25201996%2FEurope5.jpg&hash=f5e01e78f7d6cf4048afa42834a56a45f1fa282a)
And then we climbed Furka Pass surrounded by snow...
Graham was on a BMW F650 - before they came to the states. He liked it so much he bought one when we returned!

And me on my Suzuki GS500e!
(https://bmwr65.org/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi129.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fp210%2Fcabcgec%2FEurope%25201996%2FEurope7.jpg&hash=246d976aaaa7a4965964da9fb5776598a1adcf71)
We also saw these very interesting signs whenever we were in the twisties...using Beemers!
Let's see which American can translate this one!
(https://bmwr65.org/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi129.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fp210%2Fcabcgec%2FEurope%25201996%2FEurope8.jpg&hash=9fe29684022b9ea37891553090eaa06eecd6aedd)
That's it! I see that my pictures came out very small...I'll have to work on that. Hmmm...
-
Let's see if this picture is any bigger...
(https://bmwr65.org/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi129.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fp210%2Fcabcgec%2FEurope%25201996%2FEurope8-1.jpg&hash=18a4d3486d3806ab2d7cc78da023542ffe5f9999)
Now you can read it to translate!

Don't Ride Faster Than Your Guardian Angel Can Fly?
-
Uhh, "You have a less than (-) 10% chance of making the next curve unless an angel's watching over you."?
But seriously, as much as I hate to, may I ask how you managed to string multiple photos thruout 1 post?
I know this is somewhat of a sore subject, and I totally respect why, but there's obviously some mysterious process to doing this without using up tons of memory.
Dirk's fantastic posts alone prove that, so how???
-
She has them stored on the internet, in photobucket. (I right clicked on one, selected properties, and it told me the web location.). You can't add multiple photos directly to this phorum, but if they are elsewhere on the internet (and not using OUR forum's space) you can add several using the third button in from the top right next to "Add YaBBC tags:" by your compose window.
The photos aren't really loaded to our web site at all, they're more like a link that actually gets displayed.

Nice pics, Aïda. :)
I think it´s a much better idea to discover Europe by bike instead of a bus. 8-)
@Steve: It´s just like Ed explained. It´s easy to link pictures from your webspace to the forum. In my case my webspace is on the arcor- server. It´s gratis. I think photobucket is gratis, too.
The link to the pics is set by the "img" and "/img" order.

Yes, I understand that the pics are actually stored elsewhere, and do have a photobucket account set up. See, this is why I wonder sometimes if the problem isn't a Mac (me) vs. Windows thing, as I don't have anything that states "Add YaBBC Tags" in my compose window, although it doesn't look like Dirk does either.
But, I've just learned that the third button in from the top left, not right, on my screen, hi-lites saying "insert image": maybe I'm onto something, finally???
I'll have to play with this more later, right now I'm fighting a case of insomnia & don't want to get too "awake" yet: gotta be up for real in just over 2 hours to go to work.
Thanks again, Ed & Dirk, I may just make it into the 21st century yet!
PS: Oops, now I see the "Add YaBBC Tags" on the far left, as a header: sorry!
This is why 3-4 hours of sleep per night isn't working out too well... ::)

That sign is somewhat confusing. :-? (Sometimes, German deosn't mean quite the same thing in English, I've found.)
I know "schutzen" is "protection" in German, but I'm not sure why the suffix "gel" is at the end of the word. It seems like it would read, "Please give your protection a chance".
Maybe Dirk can explain!
Oh, and those are great photos, Aïda!! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

John,
I see that you read exactly what is written on the sign. Schutzengel is built up by two words. But those words are not Schutzen and gel. It´s Schutz (protection) and Engel (angel). That means Guardian Angel. ;)
"Give your Guardian Angel a chance".
"-10% (speed) - I do it -"
Dirk
-
I think we should have a regular German lesson here every week! :)
-
Wow, we've had several lessons come out of this posting! Great! I thought it said "Please, give your Guardian Angel a Chance." But wasn't sure. I also thought the -10% had to do with the incline grade... it makes more sense to be about your speed.
Thanks for the translation Dirk! :)

Ok, now that I've finally managed to figure out the .img and Photobucket thing (thanks!!), can anyone (Aida? Dirk? Ed??) tell me if there's a way to attach multiple JPG files?
My apologies for drifting this topic so far afield, but this seems to be where the answers are, and I am most appreciative!!
And see, I told ya the angel was saying to slow yer *ss down!
-
You're not actually attaching the jpg files. You have to store the files on the web, say photobucket, and then use the [*img] button to link to them. I don't think there is any way to 'attach' any more that the one file that Justin allows. Just upload them all to photobucket and no worries! They even provide the whole tag, so all you have to do is copy and paste into your message.
-
So, upload/transfer the jpg's to photobucket, then use their "IMG Code" field to copy and paste?
I can manage that, I think: thanks again!
-
You got it! ;D
