Title: my first 07 ride
Post by: Jon_P on March 10, 2007, 08:42:54 PM
got my first ride in this year. it is about three weeks early for me, i dont head out till my normal April 1st. ride. had a crappy day at work and on the way home i decieded to go grab my gear and go for a short ride. it was only 10 miles put it felt good. it was funny when i was kicking my bike over asking her to wake up so we could go for a little run. the guy next door to me was putting away his snowmobiles and i was pulling out my bike. end of one season and start of another.

now i have to get my r65 ready to ride by april 1st and i'll be happy.

i had to ride through a foot of snow to get it out on the street. and yep there is still alot of snow on the ground. though the weather man said it was going to be in the 50's the next couple days so that should kill alot of them snow banks. when i was riding out on the highway i saw snowmobiles out on the trails yet riding.

I just got back from my first "real" ride of the year.  I did go out in January to get the speedometer tests with the GPS.  But today was sunny and almost warm!  I did leave the handlebar covers on, though, and I am glad I did!  It was still chilly.

It was just a commute run, though.  I had to go into work for an hour to set the mainframe clocks forward.

Came home and I have my oil draining now.  Something I normally do in the Fall, but Winter took so long to get here, it never got done!

It was really nice here today, with the temp reaching 70 this afternoon and sunny.  I was going to give Britta the weekend off, but just couldn't resist putting on my shorty cruiser helmet and feeling the warm breeze and sun on my face as I rode!  So I fired her up and cruised around town for about an hour or so.  Saw a lot of bikes out on the road, too!  Looks like I wasn't the only one who couldn't resist a nice warm day to ride!  [smiley=happy.gif]

Yep, same here too John, I went out yesterday and today for a few hours, just honkin' around. Sunny, 70 & bikes galore!
Felt kinda guilty today, actually, as there were some things I needed to do around the house, but hey, that's the way it goes sometimes, know what I'm sayin'?  ;)

i cant wait till i get my 65 up and going. i love my other bike (my first and i have had her for 21 years) but the day i can ride that one will be the best day! i now have to work out the last couple of details with the wiring and i should be ok to fire her up and see where i am at with her.

till then i have to ride my kz. :'( but i'm riding again ;) so it is a good day. on monday they say it will be in the 50's maybe and over night wont go below 32 so i may take her to work tomorrow and pack a pair of winter pants for the ride home. we;ll see.

That is my plan, Jon.  It looks like the next 3 days are good, anyway.
It sounds like you work evenings like I do (4-midnight thirty).

i run a truck shop, most of my trucks are in after 3 pm so i start my day at 1 pm and go till 9:30 pm, the guys who work for me are there till 11:30 or 12. half of my commute is at night, for those of you who have never been to wisconsin, night driving can be kind of a risk. you have two thing you have to worry about, deer and drunk drivers. i know everyone has drunk drivers, trust me on saying i have lived in alot of places and you dont have drunks like we do, and the deer. well they are so thick right now the state is offering mulitple hunting tags to knock the population down.

back to what we where talking about. there are some days on my commute when i ride in it is around 65 and on the ride home it is 35 or colder, that is in the spring and fall commuter riding. i have some snowmobile pants that i got from dennis kirk at the end of the season that do the job nice and i just picked up a nice tour master jacket. see how the weather is going to be tonight. this will be my only chance all week. i have a service managers meeting at my corp. office on tues threw wednesday so i am going to miss the rest of the warm weather this week. next week should be better.

i have been riding all week so far. i had a corp. meeting in iowa today so i even was able to get in a 4 hour ride down there last night and a 4 hour trip back today. i was almost 4 miles from home when i saw "something" run into the road in front of the truck that had jt past me. i knew to slow way down. that something was a deer. after that semi truck hit it there was little left. the thing that would have taken me out if i keep at speed was his front bumper! ripped it right off the truck. yep, nice ride for the last couple days, glad i was going slower enjoying the ride and weather.

Did you see the trucks brake lights come on?

the deer came in from the side running and ran into the semi truck. the truck didnt touch his brakes till well after the remaining pieces of the deer where ejected out and under the truck. i pulled over with the truck. the driver asked me if i saw what he hit. i told him what i saw and what happened. sometimes the deer around here are like that. they hit you and you dont know till you stop.
