Title: bolt size
Post by: MrRiden on November 07, 2008, 07:39:59 PM
I've got my steering damper in the mail today but no bolt for the mounting to the lower tree. Can anyone tell me what size thread part # 31421237285 might be? i am trying to avoid waiting another week and ridiculous shipping charges to get this mounted.

You don't have some misc. bolts that you could try, and then measure it?

Do you have a set of calipers?

Found it! 8 mm standard thread from the local hardware emporium. My selection of spare metric hardware is very thin even though I have crates of British bike stuff. These are all post '72 and use SAE bolts. Gots  lots of calipers and even a big a$$ wall chart of fraction / metric / decimal sizes but wasn't too sure of thread pitch.
BTW the cheapo non rebuildable steering stabilizer from http://www.pingelonline.com/index.htm
Is made in Japan, is sort of a universal application and fits the R65LS like it was made for it weather you're a Conservative, Liberal or Undecided.  ;D All for less than $75 shipped. even a better deal if your packin' Euros.
