Title: Feels Like I'm Selling An ' Old friend '
Post by: Bob_Roller on March 21, 2015, 09:19:48 PM
Put my '91 Honda CRX Si up for sale last Sunday on a CRX forum .

The new owner will be picking up the car tomorrow afternoon .

Had the car 24 years, only time it failed on me was in Sept., 2012, distributor came apart 2 blocks from home .

No accidents, incidents, or tickets in 24 years .

I know it's time to sell it, parts are very difficult to get, most are no longer available from the dealer, no aftermarket parts available like some older vehicles .

I'm sure some major problem is just waiting to come to the light of day in the not too distant future, due to it's age and exposure to the relentless heat here in the lower desert area of Aridzona for the last 22 years .

Feel like the song by Neil Young, Long May You Run, is appropriate .

At least I know I'm selling it to a person that will take care of it .

New owner is an aircraft mechanic with the US Air Force at Davis Monthan Air Force base in Tucson, Aridzona, avionics mechanic on A-10 Thunderbolt II, aka ' Warthog ', aircraft .

I know how you feel as I've just traded my 26 year old Mercedes 190E that I've owned for 21 years. It never let me down and mechanically it was mostly still sound with spares supplies plentiful just like an airhead. But I felt that structural rust would soon be a problem and there were several costs on the horizon that added up to more than it was worth. On top of that it used a lot of fuel and our annual Vehicle Excise Duty is expensive on old cars.  So I traded it for another 5 year old Mercedes that is much faster, uses 20% less fuel and has half the Vehicle Excise Duty.

I jokingly told the salesman it had better last for another 21 years but I have little expectation that any modern car could be as reliable as my faithful old 190E.

What is a bit amazing, is that I bought the car  new in '91 for $10,000 and selling it for $6000 !!

I'll never own another daily driver car and get that much back after 24 years .

Unless of course I become famous !!! ;D ;D ;D
